Video Script

Video Script
Jerry, Sara can you please join us. Thank you. Alright, good morning my name is Alex and ah today am going to teach you guys how to properly field a ground ball and who played baseball before? Very good, very good. alright so field ground ball is an important part of the game because it’s defenses, defense win championships, all that good staff. So when fielding for a properly form, what you want to do is get into a good athletic position which you use basically any sport. So you want your feet about shoulder width apart, you want your, but the thing about baseball is you want your non dominate foot just slightly above. So you want your toe to be lined up with your heel. Alright so when you make, when you field it, its easier to make the throw off. Alright so want ahh get your feet like that, then you want to bend it at the waist and then have your hands out in front. You want to always make sure your hands are in front your feet; you don’t want field it back here or over or yeah. So you want to fielded it here alright and when you fielded you want your head looking at the ball watching it in, you except it in curdle into your chest and then usually you have little crow hop as you moving your throw, alright. So what I need everyone to do right now is to get a partner and come see me to get a baseball. And when you do I would like you to all find a personal spot on that line if not we can go over here too. This is my personal baseball so please return them. Alright everyone got one. Alright so if everyone can get on the out of bound line please. That’s please. Alright so I would like one partner to stay on, spread out we got the whole line. So I would like one partner on the out of bounds line, so stand right here. Now I would like the other one about right here, if you can see the B about right half way down the middle alright. So for our first drill what we going to do is one, you guys are going to roll back and forth to each other and you are both going to field about ground ball, you’re both going to roll alright. So you’re just going to, excuse me for a second, Nick if you would please roll me a ground ball, you’re going to fielded it proper position and you’re just going to roll right back. Alright we going to do that for about a minute alright and we’ll move on. Ready, Set, aahh not not yet, Go. Great form. Sara you going to want that other foot to stay a little forth back so you don’t want that, perfect. There you go. Nick that’s excellent form. There you go make sure you field that in front alright so you want it out here not back here makes it easier to throw off. Are you injured at all? (girl say me?) yeah (girl say no). Alright we are supposed to be, supposed to be in a nice athletic position fielding about to field and throw right runner at first. Well not really throw. Time!! Alright so everyone feels confident about that now? Alright I’ll wait….  Alright so for this next one we are really going to make sure that we have enough space, because this one we would pump into each other and hit heads and all that. So if, actually you know what we are going to do, would this group down come over here and spread over here and then everyone else spread down because we are going to move side to side on this one. I am sorry we going to get little physically active this morning. So, what we are going to do is, Nick if I can use you as a demonstration again thank you very much. So what we are going to do for this time instead of both rolling, we are going to have one person roll at a time so one person is going to one their knee, yeah you got it, and then you are going to roll the side to side they are going to properly field it, throw it back to the roller and then go back to the middle and your just going side to side. Make sure their back in the middle and then roll, you know this isn’t college baseball, you know you don’t have to be trick with it, you just nice simple roll thank you very much. Alright so we are going to do 30 seconds each and then we going to rotate to ahh switch positions. Ready, Go! Sara you want to bend at the waist, you got it Sara I know you do. Very nice. There you go. Make sure you keep your hands on front. And time! Switch. Ready and Go! There you go way to get active. (girl said thank you) your welcome make sure we get the fielding position so want to shuffle field in. there you go that was good, we want to be nice to our roller. Good form Cody. Jayden very nice. And time! Now if I can have everyone on the base line please and you can drop the baseball in my backpack ever so nicely. You will find out we are not running don’t worry. Yup time for suicides thank you very much. I need one tho so I’ll take that one. Alright so now what we are going to do we are going to do competition and we love competition so we going to have one, so we going to go in order, Jerry your up first. If you would please come to the free throw line, I am going to roll a ground ball and the object of the game is to fielded correctly and if you either don’t field or fielded with improper form, you are out. And if you are out you have five push on the go Brockport.com logo. Everyone sound good. Ready Jerry I won’t make it too difficult. Yup and cheer on everyone else. Go back to the end of the line, to the end the line sorry. Ready… very good. Next, there you go good sportsmanship. Ready very nice. Way to shuffle I like that. Alright ready… ahh that was on fair no no do it again it’s my fault that was very bad on my part. Ready here we go, there you go very nice. Alright that’s a good competition everyone. Nope that’s pushups. You don’t crouch, you just got to bend over its alright I forgive you. There you go good work. There you go very nice. Jayden, there you go. Pushups on the line. Alright well everyone did splendid on that one and no one got out so we are out of time. So if I can get everyone huddle up quick. Yeah everyone wins that is P.E class right there for you everyone wins. Alright so what we are all hopeful our heart racing can everyone find their pulse with their middle and index finger and start counting when I say go and go. Stop alright everyone remember that. Did anyone learn anything useful today? Thank you does anyone have any other questions before we sign off today?  Alright thank you very much everyone!

kick ball with the inside of foot, follow through) 3 out of 5 times).

Cognitive (understanding knowledge): Before class students will understand the proper form on how to field a ground ball (feet shoulder width apart, non dominant foot slightly forward, bent at waist, hands out in front, accept ball then bring into chest)

Psychomotor (performance/demonstrates): During class students will demonstrate proper fielding form (feet shoulder width apart, non dominant foot slightly forward, bent at waist, hands out in front, accept ball then bring into chest) 7 out of 10 times

Affective (interpersonal skills): During class students will exercise a positive attitude about the activity. Students will also demonstrate good teamwork and FairPlay.

Safety Statement: Everyone needs their own personal space with their partner due to the fact that students will be rolling baseballs to their partner and people may collide going for a ball.

Lesson Content: Get the class into a huddle “Good morning everyone, today we will be learning the proper form on how to field a ground ball in baseball. Has anyone ever played baseball before? It’s a great game that is broken down to a few basic skills. One of these skills is fielding a ground ball. The proper form to field a ground ball is to have your feet shoulder width apart, next you take your non dominant foot and place it slightly in front of your dominant foot. From there you’re going to want to bend at the waist almost like you’re sitting down. Then you want to extend your hands past your feet and field the ball out in front. Lastly you want to accept the ball into your hands then take the momentum from accepting it and bring it carefully to your chest ready to throw it. We’re going to do a few drills involving practicing this skill so everyone needs to get a partner and find your own personal space with one partner on the out of bounds line and the other about 5 feet back. The first drill we’re going to do is simply rolling the ball back and forth with your partner. We’ll do this for a minute then move on to the next drill. The next drill we really want to make sure that we are spaced out. You’re going to have one partner as the roller and one as the fielder. The roller rolls the ball side to side to get the fielder a little movement and work on being able to shuffle their feet and still being able to get squared up and field the ball correctly. After they field it they will flip the ball back to the roller. Everyone will have 30 seconds as the roller and as the fielder. The last drill will be a competition. Everyone is going to form a line and I will a ground ball and if you don’t field it or field it incorrectly you are out and the last one standing is the winner.

Closure: Get the class to huddle up again. “Alright everyone how does everyone feel? I would like everyone to take their index and middle finger and find their pulse and start counting when I say go. Can anyone tell me the proper way to form to field a ground ball? That’s correct. I’d like to thank everyone for their hard work and enjoy the rest of your day.

Comparing the two script

when comparing the lesson plan he wrote at first and the video script I wrote, there are few difference between them. The lesson plan is supposed to say everything he is going to say during his teaching (video script), but I was not as detailed as the video script. The lesson plan is very well written, it outlines what Alex is going to talking about and teach step by step. One thing that was different in video script from the lesson plan is his word use of "Alright" and  "So" all the time. In almost every sentence whether its before or after the sentence he says "Alright" and "So". Alex followed the outline of the lesson plan well. He first talked about what he was going teach and the different drills. In his script, Alex just talked about how to field a ground, the basic skills and proper form when fielding a ground ball, and the different drills he was going to go through, he didn't do any demonstrations in his script, but in the video script he demonstrated and also ask few the students to demonstrate with him. Alex did a good job in demonstrating and asking for understanding among the students. Another difference between the two script is in the video script, Alex gave a lot of feedbacks to the students on how their doing individually and as a group. During his activity, Alex was organize and had a good transition between activities while demonstrating all. Everyone was able to hear him during his lesson because he had a loud and clear voice. When students were not paying attention, he was award of it and told the students to pay more attention, but didn't yell at them. In the closure of his lesson plan, Alex told the student to huddle up and take their heart rate by using index and middle finger, after he ask the students question regarding what they learned, but in the video script he ask "did anyone learned something useful". He was not specific about his questions, but overall he did very good job in delivering his lesson plan and followed through what he was going to say and teach.

Heart Rate and Pedometer Reading

on the pass few weeks each students taught an activity and during those activities we all took our heart rate and steps we took at the end. some of the activities that went through are basketball, Frisbee, soccer, Step dance, and different drills etc. I learned many different skills while doing these activities. Before each activity we would take a pedometer to read how many steps we take at the end of activity and at the hand we measure heart rate by taking the index finger and middle to our neck. find our pulse and count how many pulse we got in six second and add a zero to the number to get our heart rate. Using a pedometer to count the steps we took on an activity and measure our heart rate using our index and middle finger was not an accurate displacement of our heart and steps. For example, when I did the soccer hand over throw activity the pedometer read that I took 889 steps and my heart rate was 130. This was not accurate because the activity didn't not involve a lots of movement. During this activity we were split in partners and while facing your partner, you would hand throw over to your partner. Not much movement was done, but the pedometer read that I made 889 step which clearly I didn't because I stood in the same place for the whole activity. Another example of when the pedometer was accurate is, during the step drills activity. This activity involved take lots of steps, but after the end of the activity pedometer read 95 steps and I heart rate of 100. I took more than 95 step and my heart should have been more than 100 because I was breathing heavily and my heart was beating fast. Using a pedometer and measuring our heart rate using two fingers was not an accurate measurement of the steps we took and heart rate. If we wanted more accurate measurement of the steps and heart rate during an activities, then we should use more accurate tools of measurement.
